About the Club

The foundation of Bray Golf Club at Ravenswell in July, 1897 coincided with a boom in golf development at the end of the 19th century, when a group of local gentlemen persuaded the Rt. Honorable Lord Plunkett to act as President and "spared no pains in arousing the inhabitants of Bray and surrounding district". Within two years the Club could boast of a membership of 325, which was a tremendous response for the new venture. The historic victory of Bray Golf Club in the inaugural Barton Cup competition in 1905 will always stand out as a major first in Irish golf. In the intervening years the Club has continued to enjoy success on the representative playing field while on the individual front the achievements of Walker Cup player, Keith Nolan, brought success to the Club.

The membership of Bray Golf Club remained relatively small in modern terms during it’s long residency at Ravenswell Road. Since the Club moved to it’s new 18 hole course and clubhouse in 2003 the membership has flourished. The integration of the many new members has lead to an even stronger and more vibrant Club. With the influx of new members and the recent introduction of a Junior Development Plan, the future of Bray Golf Club looks very bright.

The new 18 hole course is a magnificent USGA-standard parkland course, set in nearly 200 acres, between Bray Head and the Sugar Loaf Mountain with magnificent views of Killiney Bay and the Wicklow. “Spectacular in every aspect” is a phrase very appropriate to Bray Golf Club as stunning scenery frames the golf course and adds to the golfers enjoyment of the course.
